Review of all Artworks

The Place Project:
I decided to create a drawing of Hong Kong and Boston combined. The reason behind this is because i felt that both of these two places are my homes that i can always go back to. Hong Kong has always been my second home since i was a child so it is a very important place to me. Boston is the city where i grew up so it's also my home. I really loved how my artwork came out to be. I felt that the buildings were perfectly drawn and the boats were perfectly sized and showed alot of movement. The colors i chose are based on the photos that i found of these buildings and boats.

The News Project:
I decided to draw a picture of a story about the Arizona State misusing an Indian tribes DNA to research other diseases instead of for diabetes. In this picture, i drew one side of the scientists testing the DNA on other diseases and on the other half, the indians being very upset about it on their ground. I really liked the drawings of the houses and background of where the indians lived and thrived off of.

The Candy Project:

This painting was a painting about candy placed in a specific way. I decided to paint a painting of the candy looking like a flower and having the sun in the sky. The reason why i wanted to do a flower is because i wanted to challenge myself a little bit so i decided to place it in that specific way. I placed the twizzlers as the suns ray's and the leaf and stem of the flower. The gum balls were little parts of the flower and the candy corns are the outter petals of the flower. I found this project to be difficult at times because it was hard to get the flower to look even and realistic in a way. My favorite part about the flower is the way i painted the gumballs overlapping each other on the paper.

End of Term Reflection.

This year i think i did exceptionally well. I think the best artwork so far that i am really proud of is The Place Project. It really makes me proud because of the details and color that i added to it.I really like the way it was all placed on the paper and how all the drawings turned out to look like. However there were some other projects that was somewhat difficult for me. One of the artworks was the Candy project. I found it difficult at first because i wanted to make it look like the display but it didn't touch that. It was difficult for me to attempt to make it proportional and have it look alot similar to the model. I eventually got to almost similar by repainting over some of the painting. I think my skills improved somewhat but not that much. I think my paintint skills however improved alot more than it looked like in the previous years.

Planning for The News Story Project

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/22/us/22dna.html?ref=science

I chose this article because i found it interesting with how the Havasupai tribe was betrayed by the Arizona State University. The thing that grabbed me was the involvement of DNA being misused to betray the Havasupai Indians and what the Havasupai Indians did to get what was rightfully theirs back (their DNA). My opinion on this is that I think that people should not be lied to and should be told the truth. In this case, the Havasupai Indians were used because their DNA was taken to supposedly "help their tribe" with their diabetes problem but instead were used for other testing like where they came from. I believe this is under power because the Arizona State University took advantage over the Indians and misused their DNA without informing them at all.

My plan for this project would be to put two different sides of both people involved. I am thinking of drawing one side with the Havasupai Indians angry because of the betrayal from the Arizona State University and the other side i am thinking of drawing the Arizona State University taking advantage over the tribe and using their DNA for other things besides diabetes testing.

Drawing From Observation: Placement & Proportion

What did you find frustrating if anything?

I found the location and trying to get parallel lines straight and parallel from each other. I was very frustrated with that and had to erase the lines many many times.I also found it very hard to get the shapes to the right size because sometimes it was too small or too large.

What felt natural about the process?

I found that knowing where each thing is and knowing where to put it quite easy. With the first one, i found drawing the objects into the right places and trying to match it exactly to where its exact location is easier than drawing them to be parallel to each other.

How did you feel about the outcome of your drawings?

I felt that the drawings went fine. I liked how my first one came out to be because it was pretty close to what it showed on the wall. My second drawing i wasn't too happy about because i didn't get to draw alot of the objects onto the paper but i got to put a few things and have them match perfectly.

First Blog

I felt that the observations perspective was a lot easier to draw. It’s harder for me to imagine things from my own mind and imagination but with observations it felt better because I had an object in front of of me. The observation method helps me a lot because I can observe an object in many different angles and can that in my head to draw it out on a piece of paper. The obeservations way made me more comfortable because I could have something shown in front of me and observe every detail and part of it and be able to draw it onto a piece of paper instead of thinking about it and trying to imagine what the object looks like or how detailed the object is.
